Portuguese Logistics Trade Mission visits the Netherlands
Trade Mission
2009
Logistics

From 11th until 14th November, the Dutch Portuguese Chamber of Commerce organized a Logistics Trade Mission from Portugal to the Netherlands with the support of the EVD (Internationalization Agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs).

Over twenty Portuguese companies and decision makers in the area visited the Netherlands to get an overview of what the Dutch logistical sector and its companies have to offer in terms of business and knowledge exchange.

The group visited the Logistics Fair in Utrecht (Logistica 2009 and ICT & Logistics) and Dutch companies had the chance to meet the Portuguese delegation (high level) during a matchmaking event on 12th November.
After a pleasant welcome by the Portuguese Ambassador in the Netherlands, Mr. Manuel Nuno Tavares de Sousa and a networking lunch, an overview of the market was given through presentations by Prof. Jo van Nunen (Rotterdam School of Management), Jan Paul Olijslager (NDL/HIDC) and Elmer de Bruin (TLN).
In addition, individual business contacts were promoted through a total of 72 pre-scheduled meetings between the delegation and 25 Dutch companies.

On 13rd November, the group visited the Port of Rotterdam, where they were heartily welcomed by Frans van Keulen, who invited the group for a boat trip / lunch and a guided tour through the ECT Delta Terminal, after an interesting series of presentations by Rene Luijcx (Port of Rotterdam), John Monteiro (Portbase), Max Philips (Rail Cargo / Keyrail) and Sander van ‘t Verlaat (Shortsea / Holland Intermodal).

The Dutch Portuguese Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all the above mentioned organizers and speakers for their support of this mission, as well as the organization of the Logistics Fair in Utrecht, who have made a big contribution to the success of this mission.

Some feedback we received:

"Modelo Continente is al klant van ons maar het is me nog nooit gelukt op dit hoog niveau een afspraak te hebben. Normaal gesproken speelde ons contact op een lager niveau af. Zeer positief. De vervolgafspraak voor begin volgend jaar is al gemaakt",
"Modelo Continente is already a client of ours but we never managed to get a meeting at this high level. Usually our contact would be on a lower level. Very positive. The follow up meeting for next year is arranged!"
Harry Graman, Grayvis

"Voor ons was deze handelsmissie ook zeer succesvol. Wij zijn dus ook zeer zeker geïnteresseerd in het vervolg, worden graag op de hoogte gehouden van de ontwikkelingen en zullen zeker graag deelnemen aan de voorgestelde vervolgmissie in Portugal!"
"The trade mission was also very succesful for us. As such we are very interested in a follow up, would like to stay informed of developments and would gladly participate in the proposed follow up trade mission to Portugal."
Guido Nieuwenhuis, Brakel, Exuvent

" Unexpectedly huge!"Nuno Dias is impressed with the trade fair. Nuno Dias is Logistics Director of Jerónimo Martins, a Portugese retailer in which Ahold holds a minority interest."There is an incredible amount of logistics solutions on the fair. I´ll be back in 3 years time".
