Day 3 of TIAS visit: Convento dos Cardaes

Visit to The Convento dos Cardaes and Associação Nossa Senhora Consoladora dos Aflitos

Today, students from TIAS EMHA had the opportunity to visit The Convento dos Cardaes , which is linked to the Associação Nossa Senhora Consoladora dos Aflitos. This historic institution runs an asylum for blind women and continues its social mission today, providing housing and care for visually impaired women within the central Lisbon convent building.

The visit offered insight into the association’s ongoing commitment to social support and empowerment, highlighting programs designed to foster independence, well-being, and community engagement among residents. The convent combines a rich historical legacy with modern care practices, ensuring that its services remain both compassionate and effective.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to tour the facility, meet staff and residents, and learn about the association’s daily operations and long-standing contributions to social welfare. The experience was enriched by witnessing a heartfelt moment of artistic expression, reflecting the vibrant life and resilience within the convent walls.

A special thanks to Mário Gomes, Sofia Neves and Emidio Ramos for hosting such an interesting and impactful session.
