VISITS to UCCI Rainha D Leonor

Today, students from TIAS EMHA had the opportunity to visit UCCI Rainha Dona Leonor, which is an Integrated Continuing Care Unit in Lisbon, Portugal, operated by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, providing round-the-clock medical and rehabilitation services.

It focuses on patient recovery through tailored programs, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, to improve independence and quality of life. The facility offers a supportive environment for short-term stays, including respite care, and accepts walk-in patients while recommending appointments for efficiency. Named after Queen Leonor of Portugal, the unit reflects her legacy of healthcare advocacy, similar to her founding of Lisbon’s Misericórdia and the Caldas da Rainha thermal hospital.

Notable for its compassionate care, it has been highlighted for helping patients achieve daily recovery milestones. As cherry on the top of the visit, we were also witness of a moving Fado song, sang by one of the patients.

Thank you
