visit to public hospital Santa Maria

Today was the kick off for the executive students of Health Management of the international study trip of our member TIAS School for Business and Society. We were kindly invited by one of Portugal's largest public hospitals to spend the day, to get to know the hospital and its vision.

The morning kicked off with Prof. Dr. Carlos Neves Martins, Chairman of Santa Maria Hospital, and former health secretary of state. sharing his valuable insights on managing the hospital and existing challenges. Afterwards, the Dutch students presented different healthcare challenges, exchanging ideas and perspectives with the Portuguese managers that were present.

After the lunch the group explored Santa Maria’s facilities– from the Innovation Center driving medical advancements and training possibilities, to the Green Hospital initiatives promoting sustainability. A visit to the Start Center highlighted how collaboration fuels healthcare transformation. Wrapping up with coffee and camaraderie, this visit offered a firsthand look at how one of Portugal’s largest hospitals merges education, research, and patient care to shape the future of medicine.

A big thank you to all the people that welcomed us and shared their knowledge and time with us.
