Amidst all the excitement and buzz of the Web Summit, we are pleased that we were able to also accommodate a group of 50 young students from the Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands (leasure& events management) with a program fostering international learning experiences. 

Our esteemed member, 5-star hotel InterContinental Lisbon, kindly hosted the group during an interactive morning and sponsored a delightful coffee break. A big thank you to Maarten Drenth (Area General Manager of Intercontinental Hotel Group), Sandra Ribeiro, Carla Coutinho and all other colleagues involved in in organizing this wonderful reception.   

The event began with an engaging interactive quiz on Portugal's history, economics, and culture, led by Marjon van Dinther (Executive director of the Chamber of Commerce). Following this, we were honored to have Maarten Drenth share insights about his experiences as manager within the IHG group for more than 30 years. Professor Roeland Bottema from BUAS University acted again as a great moderator.

It was truly fascinating to hear about Maarten's career journey, his vision, and valuable suggestions. This morning proved to be an excellent opportunity for studentst that are currently contemplating their next steps in their studies and future careers. We also got a chance to visit the hotel, including the "invisible" parts for the guests, such as the central kitchen with Chef Eddy Melo (who is originally from the Açores and also prepares special menus with food from the Islands).

The event provided them with valuable perspectives and inspiration as they navigate this crucial phase of decision-making. And who knows, maybe they will return to Portugal to enrich their curriculum!
